Sustainable Development Goals 

Supporting a move away from resource intensive animal agriculture towards more sustainable plant based food systems is at the heart of the work we do.

 

Shifting our eating habits and food systems to be more plant-based and sustainable, will not only prevent the incidence of many chronic diseases, but it also has a significant and direct impact on 8 of the 17 United Nations Sustainability Development Goals: poverty, hunger, health & wellbeing, water, responsible consumption, climate action, life below water and life on land.

Target 1.5 - By 2030, build the resilience of the poor and those in vulnerable situations and reduce their exposure and vulnerability to climate-related extreme events and other economic, social and environmental shocks and disasters.

Target 2.1 - By 2030, end hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor & people in vulnerable situations, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round.

Target 2.2 - By 2030, end all forms of malnutrition.

Target 2.4 - By 2030, ensure sustainable food production systems, that help maintain ecosystems, strengthen capacity for adaptation to climate change, and that progressively improve land and soil quality.

Target 3.3 - By 2030, end the epidemics communicable diseases.

Target 3.4 - By 2030, reduce by one third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being.

Target 3.9 - By 2030, substantially reduce the number of deaths & illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water & soil pollution & contamination.

Target 6.3 - By 2030, improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping & minimizing release of hazardous chemicals & materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater & substantially increasing recycling & safe reuse globally.

Target 6.4 - By 2030, substantially increase water-use efficiency across all sectors & ensure sustainable withdrawals & supply of freshwater to address water scarcity & substantially reduce the number of people suffering from water scarcity.

Target 6.6 - By 2020, protect & restore water-related ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands, rivers, aquifers & lakes.

Target 12.2 - By 2030, achieve the sustainable management & efficient use of natural resources.

Target 12.3 - By 2030, halve per capita global food waste at the retail & consumer levels & reduce food losses along production & supply chains, including post-harvest losses.

Target 12.4 - By 2020, achieve the environmentally sound management of chemicals & all wastes throughout their life cycle, in accordance with agreed international frameworks & significantly reduce their release to air, water & soil in order to minimize their adverse impacts on human health & the environment.

12.8 - By 2030, ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information & awareness for sustainable development & lifestyle in harmony with nature.

Target 13.2 - Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies & planning.


Target 13.3 - Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning.

Target 14.2 - By 2020, sustainably manage & protect marine & coastal ecosystems to avoid significant adverse impacts, and take action for their restoration in order to achieve healthy and productive oceans.

Target 14.3 - Minimize & address the impacts of ocean acidification, including through enhanced scientific cooperation at all levels.

Target 14.4 - By 2020, effectively regulate harvesting & end overfishing, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices.

Target 15.1 - By 2020, ensure the conservation, restoration & sustainable use of terrestrial & inland freshwater ecosystems & their services, in particular forests, wetlands, mountains & drylands, in line with obligations under international agreements.

Target 15.2 - By 2020, promote the implementation of sustainable management of all types of forests, halt deforestation, restore degraded forests & substantially increase afforestation & reforestation globally.

Target 15.5 - Take urgent & significant action to reduce the degradation of natural habitats, halt the loss of biodiversity and by 2020, protect & prevent the extinction of threatened species.
